We offer this service with the new home owner in mind. Unfortunately fireplaces and solidfuel appliances in particular are generally ignored and overlooked by the initial homebuyer surveyor and this is mainly down to lack of knowledge and expertise. This particular service is especially important if no paperwork or legal documentation has been handed over stating the appliance has been professionally installed.
The inspection includes the following:-

Professional advice on how to operate appliance safely and efficiently
Advice on correct fuel usage and storage

Flue smoke testing
Bird nest removal
CCTV chimney camera inspection
Chimney stack repointing
Woodburning/multifuel stove servicing
Homeowner inspection and survey
We supply and fit a variety of chimney pots and cowls to suit your appliance/chimney. We fit all sizes of roll top chimney pots and stainless steel bird guards to suit your solid fuel or gas fire. We also fit vent pots for disused flues.
Anti downdraught cowls can also be fitted to encourage updraft in chimneys situated in windy or negative pressure areas.
Please use the services of a NACS chimney sweep or HETAS installer to fit your chimney pot or cowl. We have the knowledge to ensure the correct terminal is fitted, giving the customer the peace of mind that their appliance will function safely. Installing the wrong chimney terminal can be deadly!!!
A flue smoke test or smoke test 1 is highly recommended when opening up a fireplace with the view to install an open fire/gas fire. The smoke test is carried out in accordance to Document J (combustion appliances and fuel storage systems).
This service requires the flue to be filled with smoke using adequate smoke pellets. The flue is then sealed off at the bottom (fireplace opening) and top (chimney terminal).
The flue is then put under pressure and the smoke will be forced out of any openings identifying any potential defects or leaks within the flue.
The smoke will be contained within the chimney for approx 10-15mins and all rooms directly involved with the flue including attic spaces and adjoining properties will be carefully checked for smoke leakage.
In the event of smoke leaking into the property a suitable lining system will need to be installed.
Using all the latest power sweeping equipment we are able to remove birds nest from all flues.
Jackdaws and starlings can be the main culprit for nesting in chimneys.
It is very important all nesting and debris is removed from the flue to ensure the free escape of carbon monoxide containing fumes from your chimney flue.
We follow up each bird nest removal with a camera inspection to ensure the flue way is clear and safe for use.
I would advise to any customer that a suitable chimney cowl should be fitted to prevent birds from further nesting in the chimney.
We have the latest chimney camera technology to inspect your flue for potential blockages and possible flue corrosion. Defects within the flue can lead to dangerous gases containing carbon monoxide entering the property as well as causing chimney fires.
Here at Aspinalls we can identify and cure the problem.
Here at Aspinall's we can fully repoint chimney stacks giving them a fresher look as well as making them safe and stable.
The original mortar will be raked out and replaced with new mortar, we will also maintain the crown (flaunching) on top of the chimney stack.
Due to adverse weather conditions and flue gases from solid fuel and gas appliances chimney stacks have been subject to many years of corrosion. Mortar joints wear away which can result in the bricks becoming loose and water ingress into your property.
Don't leave it too late, have your chimney stack maintained and repointed.
Please note scaffolding may be required due to safety and access issues.
